Hamilton City-Wide Signal & ITS Upgrade
Project type
Traffic Signals, ITS, Grant Assistance
Date
2023
Location
City of Hamilton, Ohio
TEC assisted Hamilton by securing $4.2 million in CMAQ funds through OKI Regional Council of Governments. Our team was subsequently chosen for design. This project upgraded the City’s signal system from a closed loop signal system with dial up and wireless connections to a central-based signal system for the city’s 99 traffic signals. The project also included upgraded signal controllers and detection, improved communication between signals using fiber optic cable, and emergency vehicle preemption. The project ties in a Dynamic Message Sign which will display travel time to local destinations including Spooky Nook. This project also included curb ramp upgrades to improve ADA compliance within the City.
The project included 17 miles of fiber and adaptive control at 33 intersections.
Spooky Nook Sports at Champion Mill, a major sporting event development in Hamilton, attracts up to 20,000 trips on tournament weekends. This development has sparked significant growth across the city (i.e. new restaurants, hotels, etc.) and was the driving force for this project.
