Old Troy Pike Widening
Project type
Roadway Design, Traffic Signals, Traffic Study
Date
2020
Location
City of Huber Heights, Ohio
TEC Engineering, Inc. was retained by the City of Huber Heights to conduct a traffic study to evaluate alternatives to improve traffic conditions within the Old Troy Pike Corridor particularly at the Merily Way/Waynetowne intersection. This multi-phase project involved widening of Old Troy Pike to add a third northbound lane between Taylorsville Road and I-70. TEC preformed the traffic study and designed Phase 2 of the project which included widening from Huber Road to I-70. Based on the study, the design included roadway design, pavement markings and signing, driveway apron replacement, replacement of existing drainage structures, and maintenance of traffic. The project also included the widening of Merily Way to include a dedicated right turn lane and additional on-street storage capacity to minimize queue concerns associated with a local car wash. The design included a retaining wall and redesigned traffic signal at the intersection of Old Troy Pike & Merily Way/Waynetowne to a mast arm design meeting City standard. During construction, TEC assisted the City with shop drawing reviews and also adjusted signal timings to maintain traffic operations due to MOT lane use changes/lane shifts.
