For years, the intersection of S.R. 32 and Herold Road in Batavia presented significant safety challenges, including multiple fatal crashes and a high percentage of serious injury crashes.
TEC Engineering partnered with the Village of Batavia and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to develop a safer intersection configuration designed to reduce high-risk movements and improve overall traffic safety.
The improvements restrict high-risk crossover and turning movements through the installation of concrete channelizing islands and median modifications. At the same time, the design maintains the eastbound left-turn movement from S.R. 32 onto northbound Herold Road with a widened and extended turn lane.
The result is a more controlled intersection with fewer conflict points, more predictable vehicle movements, and improved safety for those traveling through this busy corridor.
