Unsafe pedestrian crossing conditions across East Main Street in Xenia highlighted the need for a safer crossing solution, leading TEC Engineering, Inc. to design a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) system. The resulting design specified pedestrian-activated RRFB mounted on aluminum poles with breakaway bases, featuring standard highway compliance, automatic nighttime dimming, anti-vandal hardware, warranty coverage, and ADA-compliant pushbuttons. Additionally, the plans detailed specifications for removing and replacing designated sidewalk sections to match existing grades, disposing of an old signal pedestal foundation, modifying the electrical service to power a weatherproof control cabinet, and installing the necessary ground rods, pull boxes, underground conduit, and power cables.
