Basic Function

Under the supervision of a professional surveyor, the technician will perform topographical survey duties including field and topographic survey, deed research and CAD drafting. Additional duties of engineering technician will be performed under the supervision of a professional engineer and will include performing manual or mechanical traffic counts, field traffic data collections and CAD drafting.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Preform field data collection

  • Travel to and from various project location throughout the state (jobside transportation provided by company vehicle)

  • Data transfer and data reduction

  • Equipment maintenance and procurement as needed

  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Requirements

Skills
  • Oral and Written Communication

  • Robotic Total Station and GNSS operation

  • Ability to use measuring devices and hand tools

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical plans and procedures

  • Boundary/Topographic Survey

  • Team work aptitude

  • Time management

Position Working Conditions/Physical Demands
  • Exposure to field conditions including traversing steep slopes in dense vegetation

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Ability to lift or move objects over 40 lbs

  • Agility to bend, stoop, move in, out and around vehicle traffic lanes and roadway shoulders

  • Close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision

  • Ability to recognize risk of electrical shock


Computer Literacy Skills to Include
  • Microsoft word/excel

  • AutoCAD/Civil3D

  • Trimble Business Center

  • Google Earth

  • OpenRoads Designer/Microsoft Station


Experience
  • 2-5 years of on job experience


Education/Training/Certification
  • High School Diploma

  • Vocational / technical course work in Engineering/Surveying (Associates Degree or higher preferred)


Licenses
  • Valid Driver's License with clean driving record

  • Surveying Technician certification preferred
