Michael Hafner

PE, PTOE

Vice President of Engineering | Project Manager

Education: B.S. Civil Engineering, University of Cincinnati, 2000

Michael Hafner is Vice President of Engineering at TEC Engineering, with 26 years of experience in traffic and transportation engineering. He was drawn to the profession because it allows him to solve real-world problems that people experience every day. For Mike, traffic engineering is especially rewarding because it blends technical challenges with public safety and planning—and results in projects that move from design to tangible improvements in how communities function.

At TEC, Mike values the opportunity to be involved throughout the full life of a project, from early analysis through design and implementation. He enjoys the balance between technical problem-solving, project management, and working closely with clients and mentoring younger engineers. This variety, along with the ability to see projects make a lasting impact, is what continues to motivate him professionally.

Outside of work, Mike spends most of his time with his family. With three kids and two dogs, life stays busy. He enjoys being outdoors, especially hiking and camping, and is actively involved as a volunteer leader in his son’s Boy Scout troop and as a volunteer official for his son’s swim team. Originally from Cincinnati, Mike enjoys working on local and regional projects and cheering on Cincinnati sports teams, including the Bengals and UC Bearcats.

A lesser-known fact: he was the drummer in a band that started in high school and still reunites for a show every few years.
