City of Kettering, OH:
Dorothy Lane-South Dixie Improvement Project

This project involved the reconstruction of West Dorothy Lane, South Dixie Highway, and Kettering Boulevard. Turn lanes were added to the intersection of Dorothy Lane and South Dixie Highway. TEC Engineering prepared traffic signal plans for intersections along Dorothy Lane, including South Dixie Highway, Southdale Drive, and Hilton Drive. School flashers were integrated along Dorothy Lane. The design utilized fiber optic cable, installed both aerially and underground, for system interconnection. The hybrid fiber optic cable system provides both traffic signal system communications and video transmission/control for a traffic monitoring camera at Dorothy Lane and South Dixie Highway. Street lighting plans were prepared for the entire length of the project.

TEC also prepared maintenance of traffic plans for the construction of the improvements. Because the Dorothy Lane and Dixie Highway arterials so heavily utilized, it was required that all travel lanes remain open during all phases of construction. The maintenance of traffic plan involved nine separate traffic configurations and phases of construction.

Project Results:
The improvements along Dorothy Lane and South Dixie Highway have increased capacity and reduced congestion. The lighting upgrade improved the visibility, safety, and aesthetics along Dorothy Lane.
