ODOT District 8:
Systematic Signal Timing and Phasing, SR 32 (CLE-SR32-2.70-4.19), SR 28 (CLE-SR28-2.13-3.71), and US 27 (HAM-US27-1.42-14.65)
PID No. 76240

The project team of DLZ Ohio and TEC Engineering conducted traffic signal timing analysis on (3) Cincinnati arterial corridors, SR 32, SR 28, and US 27, in an effort to improve traffic flow through signal timing optimization.

TEC ran travel time studies on SR 32 and SR 28 prior to implementing any changes to the signal timing. TEC also collected traffic count data to determine the number of vehicles traveling the corridors at peak times of day (morning, afternoon, and evening rush hour). Based on the findings of these preliminary studies and the data collected, TEC developed a Synchro traffic model with re-configured timing plans that showed that a reduction in travel time could be achieved by making minor modifications to the signal timing at several signalized intersections along the corridors. The new timing plans have been implemented by ODOT.

Project Results:
The results of the travel time studies ran after implementation of the updated timing plans shows an overall reduction in travel time with the newly installed timing.
